- Preheat oven to 475°F. Lightly coat a baking sheet with shortening or line it with parchment paper. Set aside.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl. Cut the shortening into the flour mixture until it is well combined. It should resemble damp sand.
- Slowly pour in the buttermilk and fold gently until just mixed. Don't overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Roll out until 1/2-inch thick. Cut out biscuits about 2 inches in diameter.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden.
